Brief Bio

After writing and directing several award winning shorts, Montreal-based Wiebke von Carolsfeld made her directorial debut with Marion Bridge (starring Molly Parker and introducing Ellen Page). The film played at festivals around the world, won Best First Feature at TIFF, a nomination for Best Direction from the DGC and was released to critical acclaim theatrically in Canada as well as the US. Subsequently, she wrote and directed the documentary Walk with Us as well as Stay, a Canadian/Irish co-production starring Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black) and Aidan Quinn (Legends of the Fall).

Wiebke has also worked extensively as a picture editor (October Gale [DGC nomination], Fugitive Pieces, Eisenstein [Genie Nomination], Five Senses, etc.), as a script reader for the Harold Greenberg Fund, and as a script consultant for the CFC. She has taught for Women in Film and Television (WIFT) Atlantic and for the Quebec Writers’ Federation, and has given a credited course on the creative process at Bates College in Maine.

Her most recent film as a writer, director, editor is The Saver. Based on a novel by Edeet Ravel, the film received nominations from the Canadian Screen Awards as well as the Writer’s Guild of Canada for Wiebke’s screenplay. The movie was released theatrically across Canada in 2016 and will be distributed in the US in early 2017.
