Bio

Lissa M. Cowan is a bilingual communications professional, author, and literary translator. Her novel Milk Fever (Demeter Press) explores women’s rights on the eve of the French Revolution, and she has co-translated Quebec poet Pierre Morency’s Words That Walk in the Night (Vehicule Press). With an M.A. in English Studies, she has designed university writing courses and taught writing, editing and proposal writing at the University of Calgary. She has served in several communications roles, most recently for the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and the Canadian Association of University Teachers. As editorial director of a Vancouver publishing house she worked with writers from the idea stage of a book to completion.

Services Offered

Lissa specializes in substantive editing and proofreading of book-length projects, along with French-English translations. She provides strategic communications consulting, copywriting and editing, including brand voice development and campaign messaging. She works closely with each client to tailor services to their specific needs, from quick manuscript feedback to extensive development projects.

Special Interests

She’s drawn to historical fiction, memoir, and YA, especially genre-blending works like historical fantasy or literary thrillers. She enjoys working with emerging writers, and not-for-profit organizations. Her academic and organizational background makes her effective with scholarly writing and grant proposals. She’s passionate about projects promoting positive social change.
