I’m the author of five books, including two novels, a story collection and two books of poetry. My first novel, Behold Things Beautiful, was a finalist for the QWF Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction in 2017. My latest book, Fear the Mirror, is a hybrid collection of stories, memoir, and essays published by Véhicule Press in 2021. My work has appeared in anthologies and literary magazines in Canada, the US, Mexico, and Europe.
I’ve worked with many writers on their fiction and nonfiction works, have delivered writing workshops for QWF, and served as a juror for the Guernica Literary Fiction Prize. I speak English, French, German, and Spanish and write mainly in English.
My approach is tailored to the writer’s needs and experience. I can provide quick feedback and guidance on how to improve a short piece or a manuscript. I can also work with a writer over an extended period to help them complete a book-length work or develop their craft.
Once a writer has contacted me and indicated their needs, I provide a cost estimate based on the work required and the length of the manuscript. Very often, the writer will first send me one story or the opening chapter of a book in progress. After careful reading, I provide a written review of the work touching on key elements of narrative prose, such as voice and characterization, story structure and language. Some writers will then ask me to continue working on additional stories or chapters of their work. I may be asked to provide development or structural editing.
I’m especially interested in short stories, novellas, novels, memoirs, and personal essays.
With my cross-cultural background, I’m committed to nurturing inclusiveness and empathy in the writing community. I aim to develop positive, respectful relationships with the writers who reach out to me.
