Corporate, Academic, Journalism
In short, Carolyne is a storyteller. And she can tell your story in many different ways—through a journalistic or academic article, a speech, website copy, marketing collateral or a communications plan. She can also do it the old fashioned way: through a short story or a poem. Her special interests are writing communities, magazine and book publishing—and writing about people and their particular histories.
Carolyne has worked in corporate communications and public relations for most of her career. In parallel, she has been a journalist, a university lecturer, an independent scholar and a poet and short story writer. Her journalistic, academic and creative work has been published in more than 100 different magazines and journals internationally. Carolyne’s corporate experience includes working in the aerospace, automotive, construction, education, engineering, healthcare, real estate and telecom fields. She has been teaching in McGill University’s PR and Marketing Communications program for a decade. She has three published books, Motherlode: A Mosaic of Dutch Wartime Experience (Wilfrid Laurier University Press, 2014), Journeywoman (Inanna, 2017) and Heart of Goodness: The Life of Marguerite Bourgeoys in 30 Poems | Du cœur à l’âme : La vie de Marguerite Bourgeoys en 30 poèmes (Guernica Editions, 2020). Heart of Goodness, for which she translated her own poems into French, was awarded second prize in the Poetry category of the Catholic Media Association’s 2021 Annual Book Awards and was shortlisted in the Specialty Books category of The Word Guild’s 2021 annual Word Awards. A full-length poetry collection, Sensorial is forthcoming from Inanna in 2022.
Carolyne has undergraduate and graduate degrees in English Literature from University of Ottawa and Concordia University, along with a Graduate Certificate from the Humber School for Writers. She specialized in 19th-century literature during her M.A. and is currently Deputy Editor/Reviews Editor of Brontë Studies.
