I help writers get around anything that is holding them back from achieving their goals and building the writing career they want. I am a firm believer—and actor—in building a creative writing community that supports emerging writers.
As an editor at Room magazine, where I also served as Managing Editor, I have scads of experience mentoring emerging writers and editors. In 2015, QWF hired me to teach a workshop called Lit Mag Love on getting smart (and fearless) about publishing in journals. I now offer this course on LitWriters.co. My writing-related education includes stints at The Writer’s Studio at SFU, The Banff Centre, and The University of Winnipeg (BA, English). I’ve been published in a cluster of CanLit mags and an assortment of international journals. My book of poems, Galaxy (Anvil Press 2011), won Simon Fraser University’s First Book Competition. To my delight, writers subscribe to read my bons mots via email on LitWriters.co, in which I share free tools and stories to illuminate their writing lives. Bonus fact: I’m also a web geek with fifteen years of experience helping creative people build communities online.
I offer a variety of personal editing and coaching packages for writers at any stage of their project—from manuscript critiques to accountability coaching. My tools and courses that help writers illuminate their writing lives are available (many for free) on LitWriters.co. Lastly, I build websites that grow audiences for writers at any career stage on RachelThompson.co, where I also offer web copywriting coaching and editing services.
