Bio

Maya Merrick’s novel, Sextant (Conundrum Press), was released to critical acclaim in 2005, followed by The Hole Show (Conundrum Press) in 2007. She is an instructor and program consultant in the departments of Journalism and Creative Writing at Concordia University’s Centre for Continuing Education, works with the Quebec Writers’ Federation as a workshop facilitator and mentor, and has served as a manuscript consultant for The Writers’ Union of Canada. She is an active writing coach/mentor, editor, copyeditor, and manuscript consultant. Maya is currently completing her third novel, Colour Radio, and is collaborating on a graphic novel, The Otherwise, with Maryanna Hardy.

Services Offered

Ongoing coaching/mentoring.; developmental, substantive, and/or mechanical edits, as requested.; detailed feedback on sample pages or entire manuscripts; in-person (or remote) one-on-one meetings.

Special Interests

Maya specializes in working with writers tackling long-form works such as novels, novellas, and graphic novels. Her main focus is literary fiction, but she has a deep love for sci-fi and comics, as well as for misfit lit (cross-genre, odd, or unclassifiable works). If you’re not sure what section of a bookstore your manuscript belongs in, or if you’re asking yourself “Can I do this?” a lot, Maya’s probably your gal.
