Fiction, nonfiction, poetry
Investigative journalism, humour, personal essay (including memoir and family stories), conceptual nonfiction, opinion pieces, polemic, literary criticism and arts writing
I have an MFA in Writing, Diploma in Education and BA (Honours) in English, and over 12 years of professional, award-winning editing experience at Maisonneuve magazine (which I founded) and at Reader’s Digest. I’ve taught all forms of writing at the university level (fiction, non-fiction and poetry) and mentored hundreds of writers, from beginners and “non-writers” to award-winning professionals and professors.
I provide every kind of mentoring and editorial feedback: initial assessment, concept development, hands-on manuscript shaping, ongoing coaching. I’ve edited over 1000 stories, including 40 National Magazine Award winners or finalists. Long or short, fictional or fact-based, there’s nothing I can’t work with! I love helping others to bring out the best in their writing.
I’m also a published poet. Whatever your purpose, I can help you make your writing sing!
