Writer and editor Carolyn Marie Souaid holds an MA in Creative Writing, a teaching diploma and an Honours BA in English. She has worked as a journalist and teacher, and has over 25 years of experience mentoring and coaching writers—at the university level and leading workshops for the Quebec Writers’ Federation. During her tenure as poetry editor for Signature Editions, she edited and prepared a dozen manuscripts for publication. Her publications include seven poetry collections, two edited anthologies, four commissioned works for CBC-Radio, and numerous book reviews and feature stories for The Montreal Gazette. Her videopoem, Blood is Blood, won a top prize at the 2012 Zebra International Poetry Film Festival in Berlin. She has adjudicated national literary competitions (e.g. Gerald Lampert Award, Governor General’s Award). The recipient of a Banff Centre residency and numerous professional grants from the Canada Council and the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec, she has also been shortlisted for the Pat Lowther and A.M. Klein Awards for poetry.
